State Troopers Recognized for Helping in NY, NJ After Hurricane Sandy

"There's nothing that I can compare to what I saw down there," said one of the 25 troopers that helped out after Sandy devastated nearby states.

  Before Hurricane Sandy's full scope of devastation in New York and New Jersey was even known, 25 men and women from the Massachusetts State Police were on their way to assist those who had been displaced from their homes. "When I reached out to ask if the state police would be willing to field a group of 25 people, I already knew the answer," Undersecretary for Homeland Security and Director of MEMA, Kurt Schwartz said in a press conference in Framingham Monday afternoon. Traffic Enforcement Ramps Up During Holiday Season

Troopers from all over New England want to help local drivers stay safe and prevent crashes during the holiday season.

The holidays are upon us, and many residents will be traveling this week to see family and friends all across New England. State Police are doing their part to help ensure these visits don't end in tragedy because of impaired or distracted driving. The Massachusetts State Police joined forces with other New England State Police divisions at headquarters in Framingham today to explain their C.A.R.E program. Increased patrols this week will be cracking down on impaired/drunk driving, texting while driving and seatbelt law violations, among other things. Mass. State Troopers in New Jersey to Help Keep Peace in Wake of Hurricane Sandy Devastation

Preventing people from looting their neighbors' homes is part of the troopers' work in New Jersey.

  New Jersey called; Massachusetts answered. The state of New Jersey asked for help with devastation in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, requesting that nearby states send law enforcement officers to help keep peace and order in the hardest-hit areas of New Jersey. A detachment of 25 troopers from the Massachusetts State Police was selected and sent on Saturday, reporting to Fort Dix to be sworn in as police officers.  The Massachusetts State Police officers are working with Louisiana State Police and New Jersey State Police in areas including Brick, Ocean Park, Seaside Heights and Palisades Park. Norfolk County Sheriff Deputy Dies in Walpole I-95 Crash

The accident involved a sheriff's office motorcycle, and two cars, state police say.

A Norfolk County Sheriff's deputy has died after an accident involving a department motorcycle and two cars on Interstate 95 in Walpole this morning, state police say. An ambulance took the deputy to a local hospital after the 7:40am crash on I-95 North, north of Exit 9 in Sharon, police said in a press release. "[The] preliminary investigation indicates that the driver of the motorcycle was involved in a collision with one car and then was struck in a secondary collision with a second car," the release reads. UPDATED: Sherborn Teen Struck by Vehicle on Storrow Drive in Boston

The 18-year-old male from Sherborn may have dropped onto the roadway from the footbridge above and is in critical condition at Tufts Medical Center.

UPDATE- Kyle Brockway has been upgraded from fair condition to good condition as of 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, according to Tufts Medical Center spokesman Jeremy Lechan.   UPDATE- Kyle Brockway's condition has been upgraded from serious to "Fair" as of 4:04 p.m. Friday, March 9, according to Tufts Medical Center spokesman Jeremy Lechan.   UPDATE- Kyle's condition remains serious as of Wednesday at 9:13 p.m., according to a hospital spokesman.   UPDATE-Spokesman for the Suffolk County DA's office, Jake Wark, said that the incident does not appear to be criminal in nature. State Police Bomb Squad Called Into Sherborn Friday Night For Grenade Scare

The State Police Bomb Squad determined that the grenade, found in a home on Stoney Brook Road in Sherborn Friday night, was inert and posed no threat.

Multiple homes on Stoney Brook Road in Sherborn were evacuated Friday night by local authorities after a resident found what was believed to be a live grenade in a box in his home. “We got a call that the resident believed there was a live grenade in the house,” said Sherborn Police Sergeant Luke Tedstone. “So what we did is we got them out of the house. We checked with the residents that were surrounding, we got the neighbors out of there and we called in the fire department to help us secure the area." The State Police Bomb Squad was called in to examine the grenade and determined that it was inert and posed no threat.
