While Dover and Sherborn may be small towns in terms of population, there's always something going on. With that in mind, sometimes it can be hard to keep up with all the news, so here's a little of what happened this week in your community. On August 16, Republican Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney was in Sherborn for a private reception. His wife Ann was there as well. Also, a scary moment on Tuesday when a person had to be taken by helicopter to a Boston hospital due to lacerations. Luckily, the individual will be alright. A project involving a new access road through Pine Hill Elementary in Sherborn was mentioned as part of the state's upcoming Transportation Bond Bill this week. Dover officials prepared to get various roads in town read for riders of the Pan-Massachusetts Challenge, which took place Saturday and Sunday this weekend. Dover athletes this week took part in the Golfweek Junior Invitational Title at Blue Hill Country Club. To add to its existing farm stand that's already open on Tuesdays, Powisset Farm prepared to open a new farm stand on Saturday; the latter of which will remain open on Saturdays up through November. Things kicked off with the spirit of hockey in Dover this week, with the officials from the Dover Police and Fire Departments taking some time to talk with Rob Scuderi, a defenseman for the 2012 NHL Champion L.A. Kings, who brought with him the Stanley Cup. Dover-Sherborn Patch provided a look into what goes on behind the scenes at Powisset Farm this week. Are you a regular of the farm? A look back at the week in news for Dover and Sherborn.
Returning from a warm Fourth of July week, things kicked off with a bang on Tuesday in Dover with the town's annual Summer Concert Series. This week's performer, Something With Digby, performed a wide variety of old and modern rock hits for a large crowd on the Town Common Tuesday night. Likewise, Sherborn resumed its own concert series on Wednesday at the Sherborn Public Library lawn with a performance by "The Infractions. Families relaxed and danced to a mix of rock and jazz tunes. The week wrapped up with a live chat with U.S. Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren, who discussed such topics as healthcare costs, jobs and education. Sherborn residents took some time this week to enjoy the Fourth of July by celebrating in their own back yard. The event was hosted by the Sherborn Fire and Rescue Association. A student of Pine Hill Elementary in Sherborn is using her artistic talents to help collect used eye glasses for the Sherborn Lions. Site work is now underway at the Dover-Sherborn Regional High School athletic campus. An Old Orchard Road resident reported confronting several coyotes that were in her front yard around earlier this week, according to Sherborn police reports. A look back at the week in news.
Things got off to an interesting start in the Dover-Sherborn surrounding area this week, as several residents in nearby communities reported seeing a black bear roaming around. Reports of black bear sightings also emerged in Brookline, and a bear was indeed caught by authorities and later identified as the same bear that roamed around Cape Code several weeks ago. The Dover Library this week was voted as one of the best small libraries in the county. Summer officially arrived in Westwood and Dover this past week, as campers returned to their stomping grounds at Hale Reservation, which lies on the border of both towns.
